Bird Recording

We report on bird records in the Argyll Bird Report (see section on Publications). Details of the status of different bird species in Argyll and on what to report and how to report records are given in the pages below this heading: Argyll Bird Checklist, Birds to Record, and Rare Bird Reporting.

Record submission:

Rare birds (i.e. all BBRC and SBRC and ABRC species requiring a description – see Rare Bird Reporting tab) to Jim Dickson e-mail:.

All other records of birds in Argyll should be sent to Malcolm Chattwood @ e-mail:NB: an automated Excel record input spreadsheet covering all species on the Argyll bird list is available from Malcolm at the same e-mail address.

Alternatively you can submit records via website or app to BirdTrack, the online bird recording system, operated by the BTO, the RSPB, Birdwatch Ireland and the SOC. All you need to do to get started is sign up as a BirdTrack user and register the sites where you watch birds. Your records will automatically be made available for the production of the Argyll Bird Report (provided you permit the local recorder to access them), for wider bird conservation issues and to track migration and distribution patterns.

NB. When registering a site on BirdTrack for your Argyll bird records always use the four figure Grid Ref. that you find on the map or from the post code e.g. NR8687 for Lochgilphead. Not the Tetrad letter or 10km square ref. (NR88). A six figure ref. may be used for Roving Records.

All rare birds sightings in Argyll should be sent to Jim, but please consult the rare bird reporting pages for guidelines.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN ORDER FOR BIRD RECORDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE ARGYLL BIRD REPORT THEY SHOULD REACH THE RECORDER BEFORE THE 15th JANUARY OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR. RECORDS SUBMITTED LATER THAN THAT MAY BE TOO LATE FOR INCLUSION IN THE RELEVANT ARGYLL BIRD REPORT
